MESSY - LOS ANGELES RISING [Compilation]
Released: February 6, 2025
Recorded: Late 2000

Messy (Kevin Haskins and Doug DeAngelis) was approached by director Alison Anders to write a song for her upcoming movie Things Behind the Sun that had to evoke the sound of British alternative music of the early 80s. They had recently experienced Still's Joy Division tribute show, so they enlisted their talents to write and record the song. A soundtrack release for the film was planned but eventually abandoned. The song leaked shortly after, but it wasn't officially released until recently. Flea is featured on bass and Josh Klinghoffer on keyboards (although uncredited).
