The first song the band ever wrote, written in late 1982, as they opened for Gary Allen’s EP release show at the Grandia Room in Los Angeles. It opened just about every show going forward until 1992, though it resurfaced once in 2004. The song itself was strongly influenced by a track named DEFUNKT by the band of the same name:

An earlier version of the song was recorded in May of 1983 during the band’s first demo session, with the band’s original lineup. The album version and the demo version differ slightly. There’s a good chance another demo was recorded early the next year at a different session, featuring Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez on guitar and drums.
