YOU ALWAYS SING THE SAME

Recorded during: The Red Hot Chili Peppers sessions.
Length: 0:16
Performers: Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Flea (bass), Jack Sherman (guitar), Cliff Martinez (drums)
Live performances.

Originally sung in French, this song was co-written by Joel Viergel-Vierset, a friend of the band, and a former room-mate of Flea and Kiedis (although he is not credited anywhere).

There is some confusion around the actual name of the song; on the original album release, it’s listed as YOU ALWAYS SING, whereas on the 2003 remaster, it has the full title. The BMI repertoire listing for the song gives its full name.

An earlier version of the song was recorded in May of 1983 during the band’s first demo session, with the band’s original lineup. There’s a good chance another demo was recorded early the next year at a different session, featuring Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez on guitar and drums.
